metallurgy

metallurgy is a single movement work for percussion quintet or percussion quartet and carillon. ¬†Written for the Chapel Hill Contemporary Music Ensemble’s 2014 concert “Modes of Modulation,” the work features the use of the 14-pitched Morehead-Patterson Bell Tower of UNC’s campus as one of the instruments.

The pitches on the Morehead-Patterson Bell Tower ranging a diatonic twelfth from C to G, with the addition of F#’s and Bb’s. The work plays on the idea of several mixolydian cadences that can occur with that key combination, and extends the motifs into non-pitched metallic instruments and back again.

Score and parts are available upon request.
